Have you ever looked out at a beautiful landscape and seen God’s glory? Have you ever walked on a moonlit night and pondered life and its purpose? I think this type of moment was in David’s mind when he wrote this. Obviously, this planet and the universe surrounding it point to not only God’s existence, but His goodness, His beauty and majesty. He is the highest and should be exalted as such. This is one of the many Psalms that describes David’s love for God and His beauty. I hope to have this kind of love and desire for God as the years go on – Lord grant me this and keep me free from my own issues.
Interesing thing, verses 5 and 6 talk about man’s purpose on this planet – but the writer/speaker of Hebrews gives us more to go on here. This New Testament book sees that verse 4 talks about the “son of man” which is a name that is used of Jesus throughout the gospels. What verses 5 and 6 are talking about then is the Christ, or Messiah – Jesus. Pretty neat huh? I would send you to Hebrews 2 to see where the author takes this passage – very interesting and a good usage of Old Testament in the New Testament.
