I have continually read Galatians 5 as I spend time with God lately. I am amazed at what Paul is saying – and liberated! So often I feel like my relationship with God or my obedience to Him is out of obligation or something to Him. I feel pressured to act a certain way or toe-the-line because of some requirement He puts on me. It becomes tedious and meticulous and wrong. Ultimately, we are free – free to follow Him. Ultimately, my poor feelings and issues in my relationship to Him are but a lack of understanding. I am allowed to sin… to run from Him and suffer the consequences. In fact, when I am acting like a child towards Him and wanting my way I am already in the right frame of mind/heart to disobey and run from Him. However, if I really want to be free – and if I really want to experience grace to its fullest extent – I will freely choose to run to Him and to avoid all the junk in my life. Wow, I love this passage!
